Our Annual Report

In our comprehensive annual report, we provide you with a detailed look at our work, the progress we’ve made over the past year, and the challenges we’ve successfully overcome. We highlight the role our project work plays in promoting the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of young people in our project countries in East Africa. Last but not least, our annual report provides a transparent account of how our work is funded and how donations are used.

Annual Report 2025/26

Our annual report looks back on a year marked by political and social upheaval, in which the regression that has been evident for some time – particularly with regard to women’s right to self-determination – has continued to advance. As a result of ideological debates, but also of international crises, development cooperation is increasingly being called into question and is at the forefront of budget cuts. The disastrous consequences of this are evident not least in an area that ranks among the greatest achievements in global health and which is now once again under acute threat: maternal mortality, which has fallen by around 40 per cent worldwide since 2000, is now on the rise again.

Yet even though the political headwinds are blowing much stronger, our teams in both Brussels and Berlin are finding that there are strong forces within both the European and German parliaments that are committed to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and with whom we are stepping up our cooperation.

Through our project work, we can report on both new and tried-and-tested approaches in which young people in East Africa are not only educated and trained, but are also empowered to generate their own income and thereby support their families and communities. Through consortia with other foundations and partner organisations, we pool our expertise and financial resources not only to safeguard what we have achieved, but also to drive the work forward.
